Chetan Bhagat at Symbiosis

Speech by Chetan Bhagat at symbiosis.
One of my student forwarded this piece of advice from Chetan Bhagat...Must read for everyone ofcourse..!

" Don't just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mentalpeace are all in good order.
There is no point of promotion on the day of your breakup.
There is nofun in driving car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions .

Life is one of those races in nurseryschool where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in yourmouth.if the marble falls there is no point coming first. Same is with life where health and relationships are like marbles. your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. else you may achieve the success but this spark, this feeling of excitement will start to die..."

True indeed...!
Somewhere it reflects Paulo Coelho or Robin Sharma.
It reflects, infact, our day to day life in a nutshell.
Intimidated by 'success' (at least urge to succeed) and drowned by day to day chores, with no time for enjoyment or relaxation, one day we realize how much we lost in terms of relationships.

Most of the time, i consider that the inability to say firm "NO" will eat away the time and disturbs our schedules.
More and more committments creep in.
More and more targets pile up.
we spend less and less time with wife and children..
show less and less enthusiasm to enjoy time with family...
we become irritable, restless..losing balance to success.
but we pretend to be happy .. burning away the emotional stamina and mental energy.
Making efforts to crawl the to the top of a pole which is slippery with oil...!
Illusioning to achieve some imaginary goals... set by others. ..!

Heart : A Beautiful Garden

A beautiful and thoughtful reflection collected in my mail box :

Once a Junior School teacher asked her students to bring some potatoes in a plastic bag to school. Each potato will be given a name of the person whom that child hates. Like this, the number of potatoes will be equal to the number of persons they hate. On a decided day the children brought their potatoes well addressed. Some had two, some had three and some had even five potatoes.

The teacher said they have to carry these potatoes with them everywhere they go for a week. As the days passed the children started to complain about the spoiled smell that started coming from these potatoes. Also some students who had many potatoes complained that it was very heavy to carry them all around. The children got rid of this assignment after a week, when it got over.
The teacher asked, "How did you feel in this one week?" The children discussed their problems about the smell and weight. Then the teacher said, "This situation is very similar to what you carry in your heart when you don't like some people. This hatred makes your heart unhealthy and you carry that hatred in your heart everywhere you go. If you can’t bear the smell of spoiled potatoes for a week, imagine the impact of this hatred that you carry throughout your life, on your heart?"

* Our heart is a beautiful garden that needs a regular cleaning of unwanted weeds.
* Forgive those who have not behaved with you as expected and forget the bad things. this also makes room available for storing good things.

True Love

collection from my mail box :

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman, probably in his 80s, arrived to have
stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him.
I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.
On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.
While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.
The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.
He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.
As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.
He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.
I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said,

'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'
True love is neither physical, nor romantic.
True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

'Life isn't about how to survive the storm, But how to dance in the rain.'

We are all getting Older
Make the best of your LIFE.

Make me into TV

A teacher from Primary School asks her students to write a essay about what they would like God to do for them...

At the end of the day while marking the essays, she read one that made her very emotional.

Her husband, that had just walked in saw her crying and asked her: What happened?

She answered - "Read this. It's one of my students essays"
***
"Oh God, tonight I ask you something very special: Make me into a television.
I want to take its place. Live like the TV in my house.
Have my own special place, And have my family around ME.
To be taken seriously when I talk.... I want to be the centre of attention and be heard without interruptions or questions.
I want to receive the same special care that the TV receives when it is not working. Have the company of my dad when he arrives home from work, even when he is tired.
And I want my mom to want me when she is sad and upset, instead of ignoring me... And... I want my brothers to fight to be with me... I want to feel that family just leaves everything aside, every now and then, just to spend some time with me.
And last but not least make it that I can make them all happy and entertain them... Lord I don't ask you for much... I just want to live like every TV"
***
At that moment the husband said: 'My God, poor kid. What horrible parents!'

She looked up at him and said:

"That essay is our son's!!!"

WHAT IS MOTIVATION

An excerpt from one of the mails i've received..

WHAT IS MOTIVATION

When I woke up this morning lying in bed, I was asking myself;
What are some of the secrets of success in life?
I found the answer right there, in my very room.

The Fan said ... Be cool
The Roof said .... Aim High
The window said .... See the world
The Clock said .... Every minute is precious
The Mirror said.... Reflect before you act
The Calendar said.... Be up-to-date
The Door said... Push hard for your goals
And GOD said
HAVE FAITH IN ME
